One Response to Roberto Bolaño’s The Savage Detectives — Enthusiasticast Episode 57

  1. @nrmaharaj says:

Mark, Jon handed you your sales pitch and you fumbled it. Dude!

What makes The Savage Detectives great, and it IS great, is that it's a superhero story. Ulises Lima and Arturo Belano are mythical figures, only nobody can agree on whether they're more of the species of mortal Marvels or DC deities. And every damn voice that chimes in on them is unique and compelling. Forget the irony. Forget the supposed satire. Superhero stories know they're not realistic. They're beholden only to their own inner logic and emotional truth, and The Savage Detectives works along these same axes.

Jon, clear a couple weeks on your reading calendar. Take it along on a vacation with nothing else to do. It worked for me.
