Never worry about a long show. I mean, I guess there are limits, but an hour is totally cool.

Got a book rec. for you guys (as if you need another one): The Steel Remains, by Richard K. Morgan. He describes it as 'fantasy noir,' which I think sums it up pretty well. His background is more in science fiction, which he brings to this book in interesting ways (don't want to spoil the fun of discovering what that means). Also, the hero/main character is gay, which was a first in my experience.

Fair warning, it is part of an ongoing trilogy, the second book of which will be out later this year. The other book I've read of his was Altered Carbon. Also good.

Thanks, Tom. Ironically, gay-themed genre fiction was up next after romance on the list of big gaps in my reading experience, so this is a very timely reccomendation. I was also thinking of checking out Perry Moore's superhero/coming out YA novel 'Hero', but I'm worried it might be too melancholy in light of his recent death. How self-contained would you say 'Steel Remains' is? Is it a full-on cliffhanger?

  2. Tom says:

It's not a cliff-hanger ending, but you know there's more to the 'bigger picture' at the end. It's not like The Hunger Games trilogy. When I read that, it read more like one long novel than it did three separate ones. Thank God I didn't discover it till all three were out!

Also, and I know this is already on your radar, but I just got the first two volumes of DMZ from my local public library, and, wow. Devoured them.

    • Jon says:

My library has a long run of DMZ trades as well. I'm waiting for some vacation time so I can hit them all at once like I did with Fables. Glad to hear they live up to the anticipation!Sent from my iPhone
